We do the 5:2 diet. This is based on the practice of intermittent fasting. If you want to know more about why we do this, you can look here.
But this blog is really about how we do it.
We fast for 2 days every week.
Except that, actually, on each fast day, we are permitted 500 calories (female) or 600 calories (male).
There aren't really any other rules. Its that simple.
The problem is of course that anything restrictive can get boring. Hence why so many "diets" and other fitness regimes fail over time.
We started the 5:2 with the mindset of "see how it goes". We've been on it for about 5 months now (as of August 2013), and we intend to keep going, for, well - ever.
I am The Cook in our house. I rather like that title. Not going to lie - its not entirely/always through choice. But I like having the ultimate freedom to choose what we eat - and more to the point, I really love to cook.
When I got my last job, as part of the recruitment/interview process I had to give a presentation. It could be on anything. I chose to present this little number on Zen and the Art of Mindful Cooking. :)
[Suffice to say, I got the job. - The job being entirely unrelated, perhaps even opposite, to cooking!]
With all of that in mind, this blog is a collection of food we eat on fast days.
- But its calling Intermittent FEASTing because I make every effort to make our fast day meals as balanced, healthy, full and delicious as any other day of the week.
A fast day meal of 500 (or 600) calories can (and should) be appetising, nutritious and tasty!
